Coimbatore: Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan on Tuesday charged the BJP with double-acting on Mekedatu issue. On the last day of his two-day visit in the city, Kamal said BJP units of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka may differ in terms of names, but both are controlled by the central government. Claiming to be the only actor in the country to have acted in many films in double roles, Kamal said he can quickly identify those indulging in double acts. On the Kongunadu issue, he termed it a political slogan rather than a necessity. “We can consider if it was a request from a political party, but it was from a company,” Kamal said referring to the BJP. Earlier there was East India Company (EIC) and now a north India company is in the making. But people would not allow this, he said. “If you put your hands on our shoulders by terming the country as one nation, we will celebrate you. But if you swindle the resources by giving it to private companies, you can only be termed as a company like the EIC. No state would support such exploitation,” he said. He said the government is doing its best on the Covid outbreak, but it needs to do more. He said there was no loss to the party by the exit of former vice-president of the party R Mahendran who joined DMK. The incumbent MLA of Coimbatore south is missing in the constituency, he said.
