Not so long ago, while giving updates on its Snapdragon Wear platform, Qualcomm mentioned it will launch new chipsets for the wearables this year. And, today, we are getting to know at least one of those upcoming chipsets.

As per the folks over at XDADevelopers, references of “SW5100,” presumably short for the “Snapdragon Wear 5100” have been spotted in the new code that Qualcomm recently uploaded to its Code Aurora Forum. There is also a direct mention of “LAW,” which reportedly stands for “Linux Android Wear.”

Digging further into the code and analyzing the commit history and configuration files further, the tech publication determined the platform has a codename “Monaco,” and it is based on Qualcomm’s existing “bengal” platform, which is a code-name to Snapdragon 662 and 460 platforms. The publication believes the “Monaco” will have quad-core CPU architecture with ARM Cortex-A73 cores, a slight upgrade over the quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 configuration of the Snapdragon Wear 4100.

Also, as per their findings, there is conflicting information on the Android OS version this platform is based on.

The tech publication also makes a mention of the codename “Atherton” that it spotted during the investigation. As per the report, the codename could be pointing to the devices that will be powered by the new Snapdragon 5100 Wear platform, or it could be something else entirely.

The details on the said Snapdragon Wear 5100 platform are pretty scant at the moment but we expect to hear more about it in the coming days. Qualcomm previously announced its new Snapdragon Wear processors will arrive later this year. So, we expect there is a lot more to learn till then.
