Abohar/Sriganganagar: Three minor boys drowned in a water reservoir in a field in Hanumangarh near Abohar. Bhadra police station in charge Kavita Poonia said the deceased had been identified as Yuvraj Berwal (11), Kamal Jat (12) and Yogesh Saharan (15). Their bicycles, footwear and clothes were found near a reservoir, sides of which were cordoned by wire fences. It appeared that they went for a bath but drowned. OC

Gangster among three held, two pistols confiscated

Sangrur: The Crime Investigations Agency (CIA) of Malerkotla has arrested three persons and confiscated two pistols with eight live cartridges. The police have also seized two cars from their possession. Malerkotla DSP Devinder Sandhu said the team arrested gangster Mohd Rizwan from near Raikot bridge and seized one country-made pistol with two live cartridges. “The police also arrested two of his aides with the cars and seized another pistol with six live cartridges,” said the DSP. Hired on compassionate grounds, cop electrocuted

Muktsar: A 20-year-old constable on Tuesday was electrocuted at the district police lines here. Sher Bahadur Singh of Lambi village, had got the job just about three months ago on compassionate grounds after his father died on duty in 2008. Sources said the deceased came into contact of an electricity wire, which claimed his life. TNS
