In the final round, Dahiya made a superb comeback to the Kazakhstan’s grappler and thus securing a silver medal for India. He managed to take a lead of 2-1 and the pressure was entirely on Sanayev in the second period. But the kazakhstan wrestler  bounced back strongly and quickly eradicated the lead of Dahiya, thus putting again the pressure on the Indian. In the end, Dahiya made a strong comeback and assured a silver medal.

Earlier Dahiya outclassed Tigreros Urbano of Colombia(13-2), in his opener and then defeated Georgi Valentinov Vangelov (14-4) of bulgaria in the quarter final. The 23-year-old  will now contest in the finals on Thursday. Dahiya, a Chhatrasal Stadium student will now be facing the Russian Olympic Committee's wrestler Uguev in the final.

Dahiya is the first to enter the finals at olympics since Sushil Kumar in 2012. Sushil Kumar is the only indian till date to reach to the gold medal bout in 2012 at london Games, but settled for a silver. Before that Sushil has won a bronze at the beijing Games in 2008, thus making a record the only athlete with two medals in the olympic history, which the badminton star pv sindhu levelled in the ongoing tokyo games.
