65% of record 27 lakh jabs were administered in Uttar Pradesh's villages

LUCKNOW: Over 65% of the total vaccinations held on Tuesday, when UP created a record by undertaking more than 27 lakh vaccinations in a single day, were done in the rural areas of the state.
“There is visible enthusiasm for the vaccine in the people and the way it is picking up in the villages is extremely encouraging," said a senior officer in the state government.
Meanwhile, the total number of doses extended in the state reached 5.21 crore with 3.35 lakh vaccinations on Wednesday. In terms of doses, the number of first dose takers reached 4.39 lakh while the total number of fully vaccinated persons reached 81.38 lakh.
This means that 31.3% of the eligible population in state has taken at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine while 5.8% are fully vaccinated. Officials pointed out that second dose vaccinations will pick up in August and urged everyone due for the jab to get them vaccination.
On the other hand, 61 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours taking the total number of cases to 17,08,623. Of these, 16,85,170 have recovered including 45 in the past 24 hours. This speaks for a covid-19 recovery rate of 98.6%.
The bulletin indicated that the 61 new cases were reported from 30 districts with Lucknow accounting for 17 cases followed by Lakhimpur Kheri where seven cases were reported. It may be noted that 10 districts have become free from covid-19. Therefore, the remaining 35 districts recorded zero cases.
It also showed that the active cases have reached 686 with 56 districts accounting for 20 or fewer active cases.
Experts reiterated the importance of Covid-19 appropriate behavior stating that new cases were on the rise in many states and the pandemic virus was still killing people. In UP, two covid-19 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours taking the total to 22,676.
