The Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has approved the centenary year celebrations of Prabodhan, a fortnightly magazine (File photo) The Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has given its approval for statewide celebrations of the centenary year of ‘Prabodhan’, a fortnightly magazine, started by Keshav Sitaram Thackeray, popularly known as Prabodhankar Thackery, grandfather of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The magazine earned Keshav Thackeray, a social reformer and author, the title ‘Prabodhankar’ in 1921. The first issue of the magazine came out on October 16, 1920, and was published with a few interruptions for 10 years, from 1921 to 1930. The magazine focused on social and religious issues among others.
The government order for the celebration has been issued by the Marathi language department, headed by Subhash Desai, senior Sena leader and minister for Marathi language.
As per the order, a compilation of selected articles from the magazine will be published and a documentary on Prabodhankar Thackeray with the theme, ‘Maharashtra’s Ideological Wealth: Prabodhan’ will be launched.
Besides, a special issue of ‘Lokrajya’ magazine, the state government’s mouthpiece, will be published by the information and public relations department. The government has planned to spend Rs 12 lakh and Rs 15 lakh for the book and the documentary respectively.
Earlier this year, the government included the names of late Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray and Prabodhankar Thackeray in the list of national personalities whose birth anniversaries are to be celebrated in government offices.
