Serie A: Good news for Inter Milan fans, Christian Eriksen joins training for the first time since cardiac arrest- Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has returned to Italy following a brief hospital stay after suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland. On Tuesday, he joined Inter’s practice ahead of the upcoming season but he is still away from playing a full match again.
Following his meeting with the CEO, the Inter Milan star was seen visiting the club’s training ground where he met and interacted with players, staff, and club doctors for the first time since suffering from a heart attack.
Eriksen suddenly collapsed while playing for Denmark in their tournament opener against Finland in Euro 2020 on June 12. It was one of the scariest scenes in football history as Eriksen remained unresponsive for a couple of minutes.
Denmark players quickly surrounded Eriksen and a protective wall around him while he received immediate medical attention as the doctors used a defibrillator on him. Later, Eriksen spent a week in the hospital where he underwent various tests to learn the cause of his heart attack. The 29-year-old also had surgery to have a pacemaker fitted before taking some time off and visiting his homeland.
Despite visiting the club’s training ground on Wednesday, Eriksen is not expected to resume playing in the next six months. Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi has also expressed his excitement on welcoming back Christian Eriksen with the manager looking forward to greeting the midfielder with “open arms.”
Inter Milan released a statement on their official social media channels in Italian which roughly translates to: “This morning Christian Eriksen went to the Suning Training Center in Appiano Gentile.ย ย The Danish midfielder, who greeted managers, coach, teammates, and all the staff present, is fine and in excellent psycho-physical condition.”
