Japan Airlines narrows Q1 operating loss to $757 mln

TOKYO, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Japan Airlines (JAL) on Tuesday posted a first-quarter operating loss of 82.65 billion yen ($756.87 million), an improvement from a 131 billion yen loss a year earlier, as pandemic-related restrictions continued to squeeze travel demand.

Japan's second-biggest airline's result for the three months ended June 30 was worse than an estimate of a 73.5 billion yen loss from five analysts polled by Refinitiv.

JAL did not provide a full-year earnings forecast, saying uncertainty made a prediction too difficult. The carrier could post an annual operating loss of 108.6 billion, according to the average of 10 analysts surveyed by Refinitiv.
