In the past few weeks, along with Kerala, 13 other states have recorded a steady rise in Covid-19 infections apart from Tamil Nadu which saw no change, although absolute numbers remained low at most places. Data shows that Kerala, which is reporting the highest number of cases, is also the leader in testing rates among larger states with a seven-day average of 4,587 tests per million.
The hill states of north India witnessed the maximum rise in fresh cases during the week ended Sunday (July 26-August 1) as compared with the previous seven days. Himachal Pradesh registered a surge of 64%, the highest in the country, with cases rising from 670 in the previous week to 1,100.

States Race to Use COVID-19 Vaccines Before They Expire | Hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 vaccine doses have been saved from the trash after U.S. regulators extended their expiration date for a second time, part of a nationwide effort to salvage expiring shots to battle the nation's summer surge in infections. Puducherry Logs 73 New Covid-19 Cases, Overall Tally Goes Up | Puducherry reported 73 fresh coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours taking the overall tally to 1,21,132, a senior official of the Health Department said on Tuesday. Plea in HC for Door-to-door Covid-19 Jab to Bed-ridden Senior Citizens; Court Seeks Govt Reply | The Delhi High Court Tuesday sought the Centre and Delhi government's reply on a plea seeking direction to them to introduce a policy on urgent door-to-door COVID-19 vaccination for bed-ridden senior citizens here. Notice on the PIL, which also seeks a helpline for registration of such cases, was issued by a bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh. The petitioner is an 84-year-old Dhiraj Aggarwal who suffers from arthritis and is yet to be vaccinated as she cannot visit the vaccination centre on account of her health. The petition also highlights that many fellow super senior and bed-ridden citizens, who are vulnerable to COVID-19, do not have private transport to reach the vaccination centre or even a family member who would help them with the registration process.
Arunachal Pradesh Records 305 New Covid-19 Cases, Three More Deaths | At least 305 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the tally in the northeastern state to 48,565, a senior health official said. The toll rose to 234 with three more persons, including two women, succumbing to the infection over the past two days, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said. The Capital Complex Region -- comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas -- registered 79 new cases, followed by Lower Subansiri at 39, Papumpare at 25, East Siang at 18, Upper Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley at 15 each and Lower Siang and Lohit at 13 each.

Over 2.75 Crore Vaccine Doses Still Available with States, Pvt Hospitals: Centre | More than 2.75 crore balance and unutilised COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states, UTs and private hospitals to be administered, the Union Health Ministry said. Over 49.85 crore vaccine doses have been provided to states and UTs so far through all sources and a further 20,94,890 doses are in the pipeline. Of this, the total consumption including wastage is 47,52,49,554 doses, the ministry said. The new phase of universalisation of COVID-19 vaccination commenced from June 21.

59 New Cases Push Nagaland's COVID-19 Tally to 28,004 | Nagaland's COVID-19 tally rose to 28,004 on Monday as 59 more people tested positive for the infection and four fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 574, a health bulletin said. Mokokchung registered the highest number of fresh cases at 18, followed by 14 each in Kohima and Dimapur. As many as 94 more people were cured of the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 25,338. The recovery rate in the state is now 90.47per cent.

Shah Forgot Devastation During COVID-19 While Praising CM: Akhilesh | Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday took a jibe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for praising Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying it appears that he apparently forgot the devastation during the second wave of COVID-19 and women harassment in the state. I don't understand for what the Prime Minister or the Home Minister praises the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. During the period of coronavirus infection, there were a series of deaths because of which there was no place to even burn the dead bodies in crematoriums.
Uttarakhand logged a 61% increase in infections, although numbers in the state were still quite low — 437 last week as compared with 272 in the preceding period. J&K logged a surge of 26%.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan is conducting the lowest number of tests- 378 tests per million and West Bengal, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat all below 1,000 per million. The average was less than 3,000 tests per million for most relatively large states, The Times of India reported.
Assam and Delhi are recording at 3,563 and 3,336, respectively. Among smaller states (with a population less than a crore), Mizoram reported the highest seven-day average testing rate on August 1 at 4,916 per million, slightly higher than Kerala.
