NEW DELHI: Congress member Rahul Gandhi will host nearly 100 opposition MPs from Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha over breakfast at Constitution Club in New Delhi on Tuesday morning.
The “courtesy” get together comes on the sidelines of a gridlocked Parliament that has failed to function smoothly for over two weeks owing to the opposition’s persistent demand for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the Pegasus surveillance allegations.
With Pegasus serving as the rallying point around which opposition MPs have united, opposition leaders are also expected to discuss how to corner the government over its failure to address the issue of “illegal” surveillance. “Rahul ji is holding this meeting as a courtesy gesture towards all opposition leaders. There will be a heathy exchange of views and ideas during the meeting,” said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha.
With Pegasus taking centrestage, one proposal that is likely to be discussed is to hold a parallel sitting of Parliament. Sources said Gandhi, who is on board with the idea, is expected to seek the opinion of all leaders on how best to proceed.
