Malayalam actor Dev Mohanan is playing the role of a villain. gunasekhar is producing his own banner under the banner of Guna Teamworks at the pan india level. Manisharma is composing the music for the film. Guna Shekhar wanted to make a big film Hiranya Kashyapa with Daggubati Rana before Shakuntalam. But due to some unknown reasons, the project did not work out. With that, Gunashekar started the Shakuntalam project as another historical film. At that time the news was that anushka was selected before  Samantha for the role.

But don’t no what happened samantha came in her place. Gunasekham who has already proved himself as a director with a historical film like rudramadevi has high expectations from the audience on Shakunthalam. The director is making this film to reach those expectations. The film will be released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. The makers are planning to bring the film to the audience next summer.
