Maharashtra News Live Updates: Shops in city can now remain open till 10 pm on all days

As the Maharashtra government granted relaxations in Covid-19 curbs in many districts on Monday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided to allow all shops to remain open till 10 pm on all days. However, no changes have been made in the timings of restaurants and eateries. Mumbai reported 259 Covid-19 cases, taking the overall count to 7,35,371. The maximum city has been reporting new Covid-19 cases below 500 for over two weeks. With nine more fatalities, the death toll has reached 15,908. In other news, the Mumbai Division of Central Railway (CR) has witnessed a major decline in passengers travelling without masks on suburban local trains in the past two months. Sena workers damage 'Adani Airport' signboard in Mumbai

A group of Shiv Sena workers allegedly ransacked a neon signboard with 'Adani Airport' written on it near the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj close to the airport in Mumbai on Monday afternoon, a police official said. They shouted slogans against the signboard when the airport is named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.Some of the workers later came on to the Western Express Highway located nearby due to which traffic movement on the city's arterial north-south road was disrupted for some time, the official said.He said some of those involved in the incident were detained and the process of registering a case was underway.The Adani Group last month said it has taken over the management of Mumbai international airport from the GVK group.

Navi Mumbai to administer only second Covaxin dose on Tuesday

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has informed that only the second dose of Covaxin will be administered in the region on Tuesday.The inoculation drive will be carried out at only three centres in the NMMC limits with each centre being allotted 250 doses.Citizens above the age of 18 years, healthcare workers and frontline workers, who are due for their second dose of Covaxin can get their jab, provided they carry the certificate of their first dose.The inoculation drive will be conducted at the three General Hospitals in Nerul, Vashi and Airoli, the civic body shared. Mumbai: List of Covid-19 vaccination centres administering Covaxin, Covishield on Tuesday

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation released a list of vaccination centres across Mumbai that will administer Covaxin and Covishield to eligible beneficiaries in the city on Tuesday.The inoculation drive will be functional from 9 am to 5 pm across the city, and everyone above the age of 18 years can get the jab from their favourable centre. Mumbai Congress demands resuming local trains for those vaccinated

As the Maharashtra government on Monday announced ease in the ongoing Covid restrictions in 22 districts of the state, Mumbai Congress chief Bhai Jagtap demanded that the local train service should at least restart for those inoculated with both doses of COVID-19 vaccine."Local trains are a lifeline for several commuters in Mumbai. Due to the pandemic-induced lockdown, many people are already struggling with earning their livelihood, and with the halt in the local train service, they are unable to travel to their workplace. Now as the number of positive cases is decreasing, the government must consider restarting local trains of those who have taken two doses of Covid vaccine," Jagtap said.

Cops nab three BMC officials for graft in 2 cases

The city Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday laid a trap and arrested a sub-engineer and a junior engineer for demanding bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh to issue an NOC for water connection in a newly redeveloped building at Byculla. The ACB sources said they nabbed Sachin Khodde (39), sub-engineer and Shivshankar Shinde (28), a junior engineer, working at the BMC’s E ward.In a separate incident, the ACB officials caught red-handed Udas Tulse (48), the deputy chief vigilance officer of state’s Dairy Development department for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for not taking action against a milk seller.

BMC announces relaxation on lockdown restrictions

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday issued orders lifting orders for lockdown restrictions. As per the new orders, shops and establishments both essential and non-essential will be allowed to remain open on all days till 10 pm. However, malls will not be allowed to remain open. The medical shops will be allowed to remain open 24x7. There is no major relief for restaurants. Hotels and restaurants will be allowed to remain open till 4 pm on all days for dine-in including weekends. So far, they were allowed to remain open only on weekdays. Full story here

Mumbai Covid-19 cases (259) lowest in 464 days

The graph of the Covid second wave dropped further on Monday as Mumbai registered its lowest single-day case tally — 259 — in 464 days (April 24, 2020). The state tally on Monday was 4,869 cases, a tad higher than the 4,877 cases a week ago.These dips correspond to the fewer tests carried out on Sundays. While 26,768 tests were run in Mumbai on Sunday (results computed on Monday) as against 35,000 usually, 1.6 lakh tests were done across Maharashtra as against 2.3 lakh daily.
