  • Some commenters called the note ridiculous, but others defended the letter

A furious neighbour in one of Australia's wealthiest suburbs has left an angry note demanding a nearby family's noisy children be banned from playing outside before 9am.

The anonymous letter, posted to a Mosman community Facebook page, was met with uproar from bewildered locals who called the request 'ridiculous'.

But some in Sydney's exclusive lower north shore argued the family should be more considerate of those living nearby in what is Australia's sixth richest suburb, with the furious row prompting more than 500 comments in a matter of hours.

The author of the note begins with a very passive-aggressive congratulations to their neighbours for finally finishing months of 'noisy' home renovations before addressing the issue of clamouring kids, claiming they are outside 'screaming' at 7.30am.

'Your neighbours have endured many months of construction noise and now we are being disturbed by your kids in the backyard early in the morning,' the angry neighbour wrote.

'We wish to request that you keep your young kids indoors until 9am.

'There have been many occasions in recent times when your kids are out in the backyard early in the morning and they have been very loud and noisy.'

The neighbour said the children are so boisterous that they are 'disturbing the peace' in the wealthy neighbourhood and 'waking people up.'

'Sometimes they are out very early around 7:30am and unfortunately they have very loud voices,' the angry neighbour wrote.

'Your son in particular is always screaming at the top of his voice.'

While others living in the exclusive suburb with a median house price of $4.1million sympathised with the person who penned the complaint, most did not.

'Seriously! We are in lockdown. My neighbours have four boys and they are out very early and I feel nothing but compassion for them,' one person wrote.

'I know how hard it is. I have two girls and my experience is different but in these times we all need to show a little patience.'

Another neighbour said: 'FFS let them get some outside air before at-home learning starts. It's good for them. It's lockdown. Suck it up neighbours.'

'What a joke, construction starts at 7am where I live,' another said.

But there were some who defended the note.

'I think parents of young children forget what it's like to have a healthy and sufficient sleep cycle so they decide that everyone else should suffer with them,' one commenter said.

Another parent added: 'I have two kids and I never let them play in the garden until around 9am. I think it's really inconsiderate.'
