Dahiya came to limelight with a bronze medal at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships in the 57kg category and qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.
Having recently won 2 golds at the Asian Wrestling Championships, Almaty, 2021, and in New Delhi, 2020, Ravi Kumar Dahiya had beaten European Champion Arsen Harutyunyan in the round of 16 and Japan’s Yuki Takahashi in the quarterfinals to earn a place in the Tokyo Olympics.
On the contrary his 24 year old Colombian opponent Oscar Eduardo Tigreros Urbano big break came when he won the silver in the men’s 57 kgs Pan American Championships in 2019 – Dahiya should not face too many problems in winning the opening bout.

- Quarterfinals LIKEY Opponent – Georgi VANGELOV (BUL) – A successful wrestler at the age-group level, proved his worth at the European Qualifiers by finishing in the top two to qualify for the Tokyo Games. He defeated Islam BAZARGANOV (AZE) in the semifinal to win the spot. In the final, he lost to Arsen HARUTYUNYAN (ARM). Apart from being the Bulgarian champion, he won a bronze medal at the 2020 Individual World Cup in Belgrade, Serbia.
- Semi-Finals Likely Opponent: Stevan MICIC – he is top seed for Tokyo Olympics. He is an American-born Serbian wrestler. He competed for the USA until 2016 and later switched to Serbia in 2018, winning two bronze medals at the European Championships. He qualified for the Olympics by virtue of his fifth-place finish at the 2019 World Championships.

Ravi Kumar will face Colombia’s Tigreros Urbano. Urbano finished 9th in the World Championships in Kazakhstan in 2019. Most recently, he ranked 8th in the Pan American Championships held in Canada in 2020. His brother John Fredy has competed in Greco-Roman wrestling at the national level in Colombia.
Going by form, Ravi should not face any difficulty getting past Tigreros Urbano and reaching the semi-finals. If he wins his opener against the Colombian then he will take on either Algeria’s Abdelhak Kherabache or Georgi Valentinov Vangelov from Bulgaria.
