Shrugging of weakness in other Asian markets, Nifty and Sensex ended almost 1.5% higher as profits in IT, Financial sectors and FMCG boosted the markets.

At close, the Nifty climbed 245 points to settle at 16,130, whereas the BSE Sensex with 50 constituents ended 873 points higher at 53,823 levels. The broader markets also rallied along the benchmarks, as Midcap index settled at 23,374, up 0.19%, while the smallcap ended with profits at 27,134 or 0.23 per cent higher.

During the intraday trading, Nifty50 index hit 16,146 levels and the BSE barometer Sensex hit 53,887 levels, both being lifetime highs of the  respective benchmarks as they surpassed the earlier highs of July 16. The market breadth was neutral and the advance-decline ratio now rests at 1:1.

On the Nifty50 index, Titan, UltraCement, HDFC, Nestle india and IndusInd bank were the top gainers, which ended between 2.71-4.03 %. On the other hand, Bajaj Auto, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Shree Cement, and NTPC were top losers, suffering a loss between 0.08-0.76 percent.

Market analysts said that the rally was driven a bullish stance on the vaccination drive and corporate earnings front.
