V.O. Chidambaranar Port on 2 August contributed COVID-19 medicines worth Rs. 17.50 lakhs, to Government Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital, and a high-end multifunctional printer to Primary Health Centre, Mullakadu village.
Shri T.K. Ramachandran, IAS, Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, formally handed over the COVID-19 medicines worth Rs. 17.50 lakhs to Dr. D. Nehru, Dean, Government Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital and a high-end multifunctional printer to the officials of Primary Health Centre, Mullakadu village, in the presence of Shri Bimal Kumar Jha, Deputy Chairman, Shri Praveen Kumar Singh, Deputy Conservator & Secretary (ST), Shri K. Ravikumar, Chief Engineer & Chief Medical Officer (ST), and other senior officials of the Port and the Government Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital, at the Port’s Administrative Office.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the global economy and its rippling effect has impacted all communities and businesses around the world and the maritime sector is no exception to this. In this fight against COVID-19 pandemic, V.O. Chidambaranar Port, as a socially responsible organization, has taken every possible initiative to supplement the efforts of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India.
Earlier this year, in the wake of urgent health care requirements of Government Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital to combat COVID, V.O. Chidambaranar Port donated COVID-19 medical equipments worth Rs. 40.50 Lakhs to the Government Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital. In addition, the Port has also donated Personal Protective Eqiupments like N95 masks, Gloves, goggles, viral transport media kit etc., worth Rs.1.05 lakhs.
The port has also earlier contributed Rs. 2 Crore to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance & Relief in Emergency Situation (PM CARES Fund) and Rs. 50 Lakhs to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. Port Officers and Staff have also contributed their one day’s salary of Rs. 14.79 lakhs towards PM CARES fund.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri T.K. Ramachandran, Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, stated that the Port is fully committed in serving the society through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. He complimented the Medical fraternity, the Doctors, Paramedical Staff and the entire medical team of the Government Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital and Primary Health Centre, Mullakadu, which are rendering excellent health care in combating COVID.
Dr. D. Nehru, Dean, Government Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital, in his address stated that the Government Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital is thankful to the Port for the contribution of medicines and medical equipments, which have helped the hospital in saving the lives of many patients during this COVID Pandemic.
