Thane, Aug 2 (UNI) The complainant in the extortion case against former Thane and Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh and 27 others on Monday urged the city police to slap charges under MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) against the alleged accused.
Complainant Ketan Tanna has submitted a letter in this regard to the Thane police.
A police officer with the Thane police informed that the application has been submitted to the police commissioner's office.
Notably, last week on Friday, the city police registered an FIR (first information report) against former Thane and Mumbai police commissioner Singh and 27 others of extortion and other crimes.
The FIR was registered based on the complaint by Tanna, a builder and businessman.
The FIR was registered under sections 384, 386, 387, 389, 392, 324, 504, 506, 506(2), 109, 166 and 120B of Indian Penal Code and also sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act with the Thane Nagar police station.
The accused in the case include both present and past police officers such as deputy commissioner of police Deepak Devraj, ACP N T Kadam, police inspectors Pradeep Sharma, Rajkumar Kothmire and gangster Ravi Pujari among others.
The FIR also mentions the middlemen and agents of the police from the city police commissionerate including Ankit Bhanushali, Vikas Dhabade, Binoo Vergese, among others.
In the complaint, Tanna has narrated the manner in which he was subjected to harassment by the police by filing a false case against him and extracted money from him using force.
Tanna alleged that when Singh was Thane police commissioner between January 2018 and February 2019, the alleged accused extorted Rs 1.25 crore from him by summoning him to the office of the Anti-Extortion Cell and threatening to frame him up in serious criminal cases.
They also extorted over Rs 3 crore from his friend and alleged bookie Sonu Jalan in the same way, he alleged.
This is the second FIR registered in Thane against Sigh and others.
The earlier one was registered at Kopri police station, it was stated.
