A man is in police custody following the murder of a 93-year-old woman in her Cape Town home on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said her body was found in her house in Dammert Street, Bellville South.
"The motive for the attack is unknown," Swartbooi said.
"A 25-year-old man has since been arrested and detained. Once charged, he is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder," he said.
Neighbours found the elderly woman, identified as Cynthia Doubell, naked on her bed that morning, the Daily Voice reported.
The resident who found her reportedly usually took Doubell a cup of coffee when she was sitting outside her home and had gone to investigate after wondering where she was that day.
Doubell's daughter told the publication the family suspected she had been raped before she was killed and that her body had been very bruised.
She lived alone.
