New Yorker Reveals Kitchen Design Fail in Her 'Fabulous' Upper East Side Apartment

A New Yorker has revealed all the design flaws in her apartment on the Upper East Side, which she jokingly calls "fabulous."

Taryn Smith claimed a house tour would take her ".03 seconds," as she shared a clip to TikTok pointing out her bizarre kitchen layout.

Smith, who's studying for a master's degree, uploaded a clip to the site captioned: "My fabulous life on the Upper East side newyorkcity."

Filming her kitchen, she said: "What it's like to live on the fabulous Upper East Side when you're not a squillionaire. Do you like cabinet space? Me neither. I have never, ever, been able to open this, ever."

She films her oven, which has been annoyingly placed in front of a large cupboard, blocking her from opening the door.

Next she heads to the bathroom and says with the water running: "In a rush? Don't shower, it's going to take at least 15 minutes for that water to become lukewarm, at best."

And now sat at a window looking out, she jokes: "See that restaurant? I can't afford it. That restaurant? Can't afford it. That restaurant shooed me out last Saturday like a stray cat. Because I can't afford it."

Smith's video, which can be seen here, has amassed more than 7.5 million views since being uploaded on Saturday.

Numerous people sympathized with her situation, while others suggested how she might gain access to the cabinet.

Candace advised: "Just take the hinges off. At least you'd have the storage space."

"What's in the un-openable cabinet??" Chris asked.

Nicole Axelrod joked: "And all for the price of $3,000 a month."

Heidi Joline commented: "The water. So true! I turn mine on, go make tea, lay out my clothes, put contacts in, drink some tea, maybe iron my clothes all before the water is warm."

Santara admitted: "That first door would drive me absolutely insane."

Smith set her clip to the theme tune from the smash sitcom Sex And The City, with the four main characters—Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Samantha Jones and Charlotte York—living luxurious lives in the city.

Carrie's one-bedroom apartment in the show was in the Upper East Side, located at 245 E. 73rd, a fictional address as the street stops at number 243.

In the series which aired from 1998 to 2004, the writer only paid $700 a month for such an exclusive address. Although the infamous steps are actually located in the West Village, at 66 Perry Street.

A reboot is currently being filmed on the streets of the Big Apple, called And Just Like That, albeit without Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall.

John Walkup, co-founder of real estate data analytics company UrbanDigs, evaluated the current real estate market, to value Carrie's fictional pad.

"To buy the apartment: Based on recent post-reopening sales, it would cost between $550-$600K. To rent the apartment: It would cost between $3K-$3.5K per month," he told The New York Post.
