Govt approves four new science centres in Tamil Nadu, MP and Rajasthan

New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) The Ministry of Culture has approved four new Science Centres in Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as part of the Union government's efforts to spread scientific temper in the country.

These centres will be set up in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, Jabalpur, MP, and in Ajmer and Bikaner in Rajasthan, Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.

Reddy in written reply to the House said 25 Science Museums/Science Centres in the country are functioning under the administrative control of National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous organization under the culture ministry.

NCSM, in collaboration with State and UTs, has set up 22 Science Centres and handed them over to respective State government for subsequent operation and maintenance.

NCSM has developed a chain of science museums and science centres across the country, including Science Cities, through the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS) for portraying the growth of science and technology and their application in industry and human welfare.

This has been done with a view to develop scientific attitude and temper in the country and conduct research in areas pertaining to the activities of the Council, said the minister.
