Chancellor Rishi Sunak has requested to ease the travel restrictions of U.K. He has described it as damaging for the tourism sector of the country and economy in general. Sunak also wrote about his worries to the Boris Johnson, Mr. Prime Minister before ministers will be discussing this week about the travel guidelines of this month, the Sunday Times reported.

Sunak in the letter explained that U.K. border policy was not conforming to the international competitors, and didn’t take advantage of the vaccine rollout of U.K., the newspaper wrote. In the country, about 72% of the adults are fully vaccinated in UK and 88% have had at least a first dose, as per government statistics. That helped restrain severe outcomes including hospitalizations and deaths as cases increased massively into mid-July. Daily positive tests have receded since then.

Sunak is quite worried that in the UK, restrictions are actually damaging U.K. companies competing with European counterparts in conducting business with the U.S. Ministers won’t have access to data from the Joint Biosecurity Centre until early this week and will discuss travel restrictions on Thursday.
