Puri, Aug 2 (UNI) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Odisha spokesperson Rangadhar Pradhan today
lambasted the state government’s claim over "drink from tap mission" which was dedicated
for Puri last week by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Addressing newsman here, Mr.Pradhan said, it is a ploy to extract money from the residents
on the pretext of supplying potable water to every family while water meters are fixed on every connection.
He said bills began coming to consumers tenfold higher than what they were paying earlier
and alleged that there is no mechanism to test the quality of water being supplied to the
residents.
Instead of online testing as per world health organisation(WHO) guidelines, every day water
samples should be taken from at least 25 different places of consumer delivery points, the AAP spokesman said.
Alleging that the drinking water supply has become a government business, Mr.Pradhan said
while the Constitution of India guarantees supply of a specific quantity of clean water to each
every day,the state government has made it a business.
Citing an example of the AAP government in Delhi, he said, since the last seven years the
Delhi government has been supplying 20,000 litres of drinking water to every family free of
cost.
The Odisha government web site reflects free supply of monthly six thousand litres per
family but in Puri billing is being done on total consumption, he alleged.
The AAP leader demanded that like in Delhi the state government should provide monthly
20,000 liters of pipe water to each family free of cost and devise a mechanism to bill the
higher consumption.
