Todays' Live updates: Parliament’s monsoon session resumes on Monday after working for just 18 hours since the sitting began on July 19 and adjourned repeatedly due to Opposition protests against the Pegasus spyware controversy, three laws reforming agriculture markets, fuel prices and other issues.

Opposition parties want a debate on Pegasus; the government has said it is ready to discuss issues "directly related" to the people. The disruptions have reportedly caused a loss of more than Rs 133 crore of taxpayers’ money.

Meanwhile, India registered 40,134 fresh Covid-19 infections, pushing its virus tally to 31,695,958, while the number of active cases registered an increase for the sixth consecutive day, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The death toll from the pandemic climbed to 424,773 with 422 daily fatalities.

The number of active cases has increased to 413,718 and comprises 1.31 per cent of the total infections, the data updated at 8 am showed.
