to our live blog of the equestrian eventing. Team GB come into this day in pole position. We have the Equestrian – Jumping – Team Final and Individual Qualifiers coming up. At 1700 Tokyo time, or 0900 BST, the individuals start.
GB did superbly in the cross-country: world number one Oliver Townend, Laura Collett and Tom McEwen lead the team event. Australia and France are up there.
All of our trio are in the top six. Townend is in first, Collett third and McEwen sixth.
They will have a round of showjumping which decides the team medals and then the individual medals are sorted from 1245pm.
It’s 49 years since GB won the team gold, in Munich. And surprisingly perhaps, only Richard Meade (1972) and Leslie Law (2004) – have won the individual gold.
Townend and his horse Ballaghmor Class lead on 23.60 penalties, Germany’s Julia Krajewski the danger 2.0 behind..
“We know he is a special horse. He is tough and digs deep,” said Townend.
“It’s his mentality, more than anything. He is quirky, but he is tough, and the bottom line is he wants to do his job more than most horses.”
And there’s a great story with Laura.
