Eleven people killed in two separate road accidents in Bengal

Kolkata, Aug 2 (UNI) About 11 people were killed and some 24 others sustained wounds in separate road accidents in West Bengal, official sources said on Monday.

Eight people were killed and 18 others sustained wounds, some of them seriously, when a pick van in which the victims were travelling hit a roadside tree and fell into a water-filled canal in

South 24 Parganas' Bakultala area under Baruipur police station late last night.

Police and eye-witnesses said while six people died on the spot, two

others succumbed to their wounds in the hospital.

The injured people have been admitted to different hospitals. Among

the dead four of them from the same family.

The accident happened while the open-hooded pickup van was racing

towards Howrah station to drop them,

who wanted to catch a train for Tamil Nadu. Police said all the

victims were going to Tamil Nadu for seasonal work.

In another accident, three motorcyclists were killed when their

two-wheeler hit a parked truck at Nandakumar

in East Medinipur in the wee hours today. Another youth was also

injured critically.

All four were on the motorcycle and none of them had helmets. They

were returning home after attending a funeral.

Five people were injured when a bus fell into a canal at Bhatar under

East bardhaman district today.
