HYDERABAD: The new team of the Telangana Congress-led by state president A Revanth Reddy will soon come out with a fresh strategy to re-connect with the minority communities in Greater Hyderabad.
"The problems being faced by Muslims, Christians and other minority communities in Telangana have multiplied under the TRS government. These communities including Muslims constitute nearly 15% of the total population in Telangana. They are facing discrimination and neglect since 2014 on several fronts. The Congress will soon list out major problems concerning minorities and devise a strategy for their redressal," said Sameer Waliullah, Telangana Congress minorities cell city chairman Sameer Waliullah said.
The problems being faced by minorities are not religion-specific but region-specific. Housing, employment, education, civic amenities, safety, health, public transportation, drinking water, roads, etc., are among the major issues concerning the minorities who constitute a major chunk of population in Hyderabad district, Sameer said.
The ruling TRS made several promises to the minorities during the GHMC elections campaign in 2016 and 2021. Lakhs of applications were collected from the poor by the TRS and MIM parties promising 2-BHK houses after the 2016 polls but the housing units were not delivered.
Thousands of families affected by floods were promised Rs 10,000 financial assistance once the GHMC-2020 elections were over but have not been given till date, he said.
A large number of nearly 18 lakh youth who have registered with the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) are from Greater Hyderabad, and a major chunk of those from the state capital are Muslims and candidates from other minority communities. Lakhs of people lost their jobs and other sources of employment in the first and second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic. As a result, unemployment is one of the major issues among the minorities, Sameer said.
The minority cell of the Congress will hold issue-based protest meetings to create awareness among the people while building pressure upon the TRS Government to solve those problems.
