LUCKNOW: The weather is expected to remain pleasant this week, as witnessed on Sunday, with the
Met department predicting the possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the coming days.
“There is a low pressure area over south
UP and the monsoon trough line – a stream of cyclonic circulations – is passing through the state. Together, the two factors will cause light to moderate
rainfall in many parts of the state, including Lucknow, till Thursday,” state Met director
JP Gupta said.
The mercury level remained below normal in the city on Sunday due to cloudy sky and intermittent drizzles. Though the humidity level was high, it did not pinch much due to the cool breeze.
The maximum temperature was 30.2 degrees Celsius, over three units below normal, and the minimum temperature was 25.5 degrees Celsius, almost a degree below normal. Total 3.1 mm rainfall was recorded at the Met observatory in
Amausi.
Rainfall in the past one week has reduced the rain deficit in the city this monsoon. From June 1 to July 15, the total rainfall in the city was 24% below normal. However, on Sunday, it stood at 8% below normal. The state capital received 291.9 mm rain during this period against the normal of 318.9mm.
Overall, the rainfall in UP has been 3% above normal till date in this monsoon. While east UP has recorded 7% above normal rain, the western parts have received 5% below normal rainfall.
