The Weeknd New Song: All About 'The Dawn'

The Weeknd has teased his upcoming song, "The Dawn," on his social media accounts after days of speculation. The Canadian singer shared a snippet of the song alongside a short video, after a series of cryptic posts referring to countdowns and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

But the song is also believed to be the title track of his upcoming album, which some believe will be called "The Dawn Is Coming."

Fans have been trying to work out The Weeknd's posts for a while now to figure out when it is being released—though hopefully before his 2022 tour.

When Is 'The Dawn' Coming Out?

The teaser for the track was released on August 2, just after midnight.

It came after The Weeknd released a series of tweets and Instagram posts relating to it.

The 31-year-old singer even deleted all but two of his previous Instagram posts, leaving one which read: "LIKE IF YOU ARE F****** READY FOR DAWN!"

The other was a short video of his music, which included a heavy trance-like beat and very few vocals, meaning the lyrics cannot be analyzed for any hidden meanings.

The Weeknd has suggested fans will not have long to wait for the song to be fully released.

After a series of tweets about eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, he said: "anyways ima feed ya'll soon. pbj for your ears."

It came with an emoji of a sunrise, which became a stamp on his following tweets about the record.

He followed this up with a series of tweets about arriving at the point of sharing music, saying: "can't believe we're here. feels like yesterday we were there... but now... we're here. not there."

He added: "the countdown has begun... in my head," and "say your final goodbyes..."

Despite these cryptic posts, he has not officially set a date for the arrival of his new song in full.

What Is The Weeknd's New Album Called?

"The Dawn" is the first song on the album, which, like with his albums Starboy and Kiss Land, might suggest this will become the name of the album.

Given the sunrise emoji stamp on many of his tweets, it seems like this could be an important track on the album.

However, on previous albums such as After Hours and Beauty Behind The Madness, the first track has a completely different name to the album.

The Weeknd has taken it in turns to release the title track first on each album, choosing to release the title track first with his first and third albums, as opposed to his second and fourth albums, where the lead single had a different title.

As a result, if the pattern persists it may be fans are right in thinking "The Dawn" is the name of his upcoming album.

Despite this, there is no word yet on its release date, though fans know he has been working on it for some time, teasing it being finished back in July.

What Is The Weeknd's Real Name?

The Canadian singer's real name is Abel Tesfaye.

When he first started out, he used a series of pseudonyms such as AbelOfficial to release music, before eventually settling on The Weeknd.

Fans have asked him why he chose this name, and in a fan thread on Reddit he responded, saying: "I left home when I was about 17 dropped out of high school and convinced La Mar [La Mar Taylor, creative director of The Weeknd] to do the same lol.

"We grabbed our mattresses from our parents threw it in our friends s***** van and left one weekend and never came back home. It was gonna be the title of HOB.

"I hated my name at the time though so I tried it as a stage name. It sounded cool.

"I took out the 'e' because there was already a Canadian band named The Weekend (copyright issues)."
