Nashik, Aug 1 (UNI) The Nandgoan Forest Department has detained two people from Manmad for selling native, exotic turtles and wildlife parrots. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of a large wildlife racket in the area.
According Nandgaon forest department sources said today, the Forest Department found turtles and parrots for sale in a shop in Manmad and detained the suspects. The action taken by the forest department revealed that the tortoise had been in the custody of the suspects for three months. It has been revealed that smuggling of turtles and birds is taking place in the taluka and the forest department has expressed the possibility that a large gang is working behind this.
The Forest Department of Nandgaon went to the spot and searched the shop and found 14 turtles (approximately 3 and 6 months old) and three turtles one year old. It became clear that it was intended for sale. A total of 17 parrots and seven parrots were captured.
Salim Sattar Sheikh (resident of Manmad) and 17-year-old suspects were detained and charged under Section 9 of the Indian Wildlife Conservation Act, 1972.
