The trial of suspended North West National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional head of the Special Commercial Crimes Unit, Jeanette Neveling, has been set down for 3 November.

Neveling appeared in the Molopo Regional Court on Monday, facing a charge of shoplifting.

NPA North West spokesperson Henry Mamothane said Neveling "sent representation to the NDPP's [National Director of Public Prosecutions] office for the matter not to go for trial".

"The State is, however, ready for trial, pending the NDPP's response, which we hope will come before the trial date," he said.

Neveling allegedly stole food and clothing items, valued at approximately R3 000, at a retail shop at The Crossing Shopping Mall in Mahikeng on 16 February.
