New Delhi: Experts have emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) creates new opportunities that cannot be achieved by traditional technology and can be used for healthcare as well as for many other current and future challenges in different sectors.
‘AI would not replace people, but create new opportunities in different areas. It works on data, and if we could train our machines, it could work wonders for us in milliseconds by automating processes. It can be used for diagnostic purposes for various diseases, including Covid-19, and can be very effective in remote areas where there are insufficient health facilities available, ”said Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
“The key to success in using AI for various problems is to reach out to maximum people,” Sharma said during an online ‘DST Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Discourse Series New India @ 75’ organized by the National Council for Science & Technology Communication and Vigyan Prasar here, a department statement said Monday.
He talked about how DST has progressed in recent years, finding ground technologies, and launched several schemes to tackle the challenges that come faster with scientific, technology and innovation-based solutions. “The rise of disruptive and impactful technology poses new challenges and at the same time greater opportunities. DST is a nursery to help, nurture and cultivate young talents for the progress and development of the country, ‘he added.
Senior Adviser, NITI Aayog, Anna Roy pointed out that AI can be used effectively for different challenges of the country. India has a number of challenges, but at the same time we also have the advantage of being a data-rich country with many IT professionals, educators and a demographic dividend. “All of this can be a blessing to us if we can use it for the progress and development of the country,” Roy said.
She emphasizes the role that NITI Aayog plays in identifying different problems of the country and proposing the future road map for India. “NITI Aayog as the leading think tank for the government and the country is developing policies to broaden the ecosystem of science and technology and to bring together industry and academia for the progress and development of the country in every sector, she emphasized.
