GUWAHATI, July 31: The results of Higher Secondary (HS) final examination conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) were declared on Saturday. The pass percentage is 99%.

This year’s pass percentage improved stream wise. There are no toppers in the results as they were declared on the basis of the past academic records of the students.

With 99.57 pass percentage, commerce students produced the best results, though science and arts students did not lag far behind. While in science, the pass percentage was 99.06, the corresponding figure for arts was recorded to be 98.93 per cent.

As many as 32,917 students secured first division, 4,609 candidates got second division, and 542 students bagged the third division in the Science stream.

In the Commerce stream, 11,189 students secured first division, 5,497 students secured second division, and 1,678 students secured third division.

In the Arts stream, a total of 58,244 students secured first division, 89,520 students secured second division, and 42,029 students got the third division.

In the vocational stream, the pass percentage was 97.41 this year, an improvement of around six per cent from last year’s 91.55. Total 1,081 students were registered from the vocational stream and 618 bagged the first division, followed by 381 bagging the second division and 54 the third division.

This year a total of 2,49,812 candidates had appeared for the examination out of which 38,430 candidates were from Science stream, 1,91,855 were from Arts stream, 18,443 were from the Commerce stream and 1,081 students were from Vocational course.

In the district-wise performance tally, Majuli produced best results in arts with 99.91 pass percentage. With cent percent results, hill district Dima Hasao excelled at the top in science. In commerce, 13 out of 33 districts produced striking results with a cent per cent success rate.

A total of 14 districts in the state have 100% pass percentage. The districts are: Dima Hasao, Charaideo, Biswanath, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Majuli, Morigaon, Nalbari, South Salmara, Udalguri, and West Karbi Anglong.

In 2020, the Commerce stream had the highest pass percentage with 88.18 per cent, followed by Science – 88.06 per cent. The Arts stream had the least pass percentage at 78.28 per cent. Abhinash Kalita from Science topped with 486 marks securing 97.2 per cent.

The examinations were scheduled to start on May 12 but were indefinitely postponed due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the exam could not be conducted due to the second wave, the state government had constituted an expert committee to deal with the disputes on HS results.
