BCCI Meeting: BCCI looks for permanent CEO, mulls U-25 tournament – India’s apex cricket body Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering major changes in the Indian domestic cricket and administrative hierarchy in the system. The meeting was conducted in Delhi on Saturday on July 31 which discussed an Under-25 cricket competition in place of the Under-23 tournament.
Permanent CEO
In the meeting, another top of discussion was of having a permanent Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Currently, BCCI CEO is Hemang Amin who is also the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Indian Premier League (IPL). To end the temporary arrangement with Amin, the decision to have a permanent CEO is understandable. Amin is CEO since Rahul Johri resigned late last year.
U-23 tournament
BCCI will take the opinions of the state association before going forward with the plan of replacing the U-23 tournament with U-25. It is likely that the new meet will be an A tour among the State teams. The decision will be welcoming for fringe players in the first class, who cannot be involved in the game if they don’t make it to their state’s Ranji team.
The idea of hosting an Under-16 competition was also discussed in the meeting but was ruled out as no vaccination is still allowed for the Under-18 category and holding the domestic tournament for Under 16 will come with health risks for the youngsters
Foreign Players in IPL 2021 phase 2
BCCI was expected to inform the IPL franchise about foreign players participation in IPL 2021 phase 2 however the board is still in talks with the foreign boards. BCCI is likely to inform franchisees regarding foreign player’s participation in IPL later with a formal notification. So that they can find the potential replacement for the player unavailable.
