Kakinada, Aug 1(UNI) The Kakinada Sub-Divisional police have busted a Ganja smuggling racket by nabbing a twelve member gang red handed while packing the Ganja into small sachets for supply to clientele in the vicinity of a burial ground along the RTC bus station complex in the heart of the city in the early hours of Sunday .
A special team led by P Eswarudu, inspector of Two town police station and comprising of officials from district special branch and crime wing were working for the past few days to bring the gangsters to book.
Interestingly, among those arrested there is a sixteen year old minor boy. All the accused are locals residing in various localities of the city. Giving the details of the arrest to media persons SP Ravindranath babu who monitored the entire operation for the past few days said that 25 kgs of Ganja valued at Rs.2.5 lakhs besides cash valued at Rs.92,630 was seized from their possession.
Out of the twelve accused, he said, eight including the minor boy were habitual offenders involved in criminal cases. ` Among them Bezwada Ravi was involved in seven theft cases, three ganja related cases, Viswala Kishore Kumar was involved in a woman harassment case, one murder attempt and another clash with rivals with weapons, Thadi Lovaraju is facing four theft cases, one security case, Galeti Dorababu was involved in ten theft cases, Kondapalli Simhadri in 10 theft cases and three ganja cases, Neelapu Nagarjuna alias Nagu was involved in murder cases and one faction fight case, Palepu Satish in six theft cases and one ganja case while the boy was accused in a theft case.
The SP has complimented the entire police team including the law and order DSP Bhimarao, Special branch DSPs Ambika Prasad, Venkateswerarao and two town inspector Eswerudu for the good work done and nabbing the culprits red handed bringing good name to the department.
He advised them to continue the team work and prepare lists of Ganja users and sellers and initiate stringent action to curb the ganja menace.
IT Core team Inspector Ramachandrarao, Special branch inspectors Ramana and Rajani kumar and sub inspector Chiranjivi were among those who attended the event.
