KOLKATA: Cops probing the murder of a 62-year-old woman living alone at her Baguiati home last week, arrested a young domestic help from Uttar Pradesh who has started working at the woman’s home barely a month ago.
Police said, Dinesh Prasad (35) had met the woman at a Mumbai hotel in 2019 while he worked there as a waiter. The youth had come to Kolkata in June this year in search of work when the woman employed him as a domestic help.
“The youth strangled the woman with a towel and fled with her ornaments and cellphone. We have arrested him from Silhari in UP and have also recovered the ornaments and cellphone. He was brought to Kolkata on transit remand on Friday and was produced before a Barasat court on Saturday,” said an officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
The woman was found on her bed in a nightgown, a towel wrapped around her neck on July 20. Her body has started decomposing.
