Assam govt will go to Supreme Court soon, says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma amid border row with Mizoram

NEW DELHI: The Assam government will go to Supreme Court soon, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said amid border dispute with Mizoram.
Speaking about Mizoram Police registering an FIR against him, the Assam chief minister said if filing an FIR resolves the issue, he will appear before the police station.
"I'm happy if filing an FIR against me resolves the issue, I'll go and appear before any police station. But I will not allow our officers to be investigated," Sarma told reporters.
He further that the Assam government will soon approach the Supreme Court to resolve the border row with the neighbouring state.
Sarma, who has been charged with criminal conspiracy and attempt to murder in an FIR by Mizoram Police, also spoke of keeping alive the spirit of the North East in a Twitter post.
"Our main focus is on keeping the spirit of North-East alive. What happened along Assam-Mizoram border is unacceptable to people of both states. Mizoram CM had promised to call me post his quarantine. Border disputes can only be resolved through discussion," Sarma said on Twitter.
The Mizoram Police booked Sarma, four senior Assam Police officers and two officials on different charges, including 'attempt to murder', 'criminal conspiracy' and 'assault'.
At least seven people from Assam, including six police personnel, were killed in the violence amid the border dispute between the two Northeastern states.
