MYSURU: Work from anywhere or a ‘workation’ is the new buzz word among professionals, especially techies, who are arriving here, as well as to tourist destinations in surrounding areas, to unwind even as they work.
Amid the fear of a third wave of the
Covid-19 pandemic, young tourists are now choosing the tourist spots here to work in, while their children take online classes, and the family has a short vacation. This is helping in reviving the tourism sector, which was badly hit by the pandemic.
For Amitava Banerjee, an IT professional from Bengaluru, who is now staying in a resort located in the city’s outskirts, this is the second such outing. “This is my second such visit to
Mysuru. I will stay in the city till the next weekend. I have come here with my wife and children,” he said. His children are attending classes online.
Banerjee’s day starts with yoga and pranayama. “After work, we walk on the village roads and enjoy the serene beauty of rural Mysuru. This outing is helping me to cope with work pressure,” he said. “The beauty of this concept is that we can take short breaks whenever we require,” he said.

Swaroop Urs, who is operating a tourist facility, said that many travellers are opting for work from anywhere, especially in the weekdays, when it is less expensive, and tourists are in few numbers. “They enjoy working in a peaceful atmosphere. They stroll around the village and cycle for relaxation, and rejuvenate themselves. More people are showing interest in this concept,” he said.
Sagar Apparanda, president,
Association for Rural Tourism, Kodagu, said that at the time of the lockdown, there were many enquiries from people wanting to stay for 20-30 days in resorts. However, keeping in mind the safety of villagers, we didn’t open the resorts for any of them.
