Tamil Nadu news live: CM MK Stalin for all-party meet against proposed draft on PG medical admission

The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday said it was mandatory for people coming from Kerala, to the state to carry a negative RT-PCR test report or vaccination certificate of two Covid doses from August 5, in the wake of a spike in infections in the neighbouring state. (PTI)

A team of food safety officials inspected 22 stalls in the market of which one stall was found stocked with 18 kg of unwholesome meat including liver and intestines of sheep in the freezer. Upon noticing the discolouration of the meat and foul smell emanated, the officials confirmed that the meat was unfit for consumption.

The Trichy international airport has established a facility for outbound international passengers to undergo rapid PCR test ahead of their departure. As many countries seek a negative Covid test, the facility will enable a smooth immigration process. Airport director S Dharmaraj said that the airport has tied up with a diagnostics laboratory in Trichy to collect samples from the passengers.

Chief minister M K Stalin on Saturday said the state government would give priority to first-generation graduates in jobs in the government sector and instructed authorities to develop training modules and courses in government training centres for youngsters to excel in competitive examinations.

The Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR&CE) department on Saturday announced that devotees will not be permitted to congregate in major ‘Amman’ and ‘Murugan’ temples in the state from August 1 to August 3 to offer prayers for Aadi Krithigai.

To contain the spread of Covid-19, new restrictions will be implemented across the district from Monday. Coimbatore collector G S Sameeran conducted a meeting with city police commissioner Deepak M Damor and representatives of trade unions at the collectorate on Saturday evening to chalk out a plan. All shops, except those selling essential commodities like milk, medicines and vegetables will be allowed to function from 10am to 5pm from August 2. Shops on Cross Cut Road, 100 Deet Eoad, Gandhipuram 5,6, and 7th Atreets, Oppanakkara Street, Ramamurthy Road, Saramedu, Rice Mill Road, NP Itteri Road, Ellai Thottam Junction and Thudiyalur Junction won't be allowed to function on Sundays. However, shops selling milk, vegetables and medicines can open.

After the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections this year that brought the DMK to power, the next political battle will be the local body polls. Ministers in the DMK government have made claims about their handling of the Covid crisis -- the increase in testing for Covid-19 cases and vaccinations. Chief Minister M.K. The department of cardiology at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy has been equipped with optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fractional flow reserve (FFR) for treating cardiac patients, said dean Dr K Vanitha. A team, headed by Dr T Balasubramanian, Dr Jaisankar, Dr Ashok, Dr Suresh, Dr Karthik and Dr Manivel, carried out OCT on four patients and FFR on one patient in the past one month. READ MORE

A burglar, involved in a series of thefts in Velachery, was killed in a drunken brawl by his friends at Chengalpet.
