Kerala reports 20,728 new COVID cases, 17,792 recoveries

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 1 (UNI) Kerala recorded 20,728 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Sunday while 17,792 patients recovered from the disease, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.
In a press release here this evening, the CM said: "Total 1,70,690 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) is 12.14 per cent. A total of 2,73,87,700 samples have been sent for testing till this day."
Meanwhile, 56 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid, taking the death toll in the state to 16,837.
Today, 323 Local Self Government areas were identified with TPR above 15 per cent in the State.
In the last 24 hours, Covid was not detected in any person who recently came to Kerala from the UK. So far, 11 people who came from the UK were diagnosed with the genetically modified virus.
