BISWANATH CHARIALI, July 30: Biswanath district the administration is walking the extra mile to ensure that all Divyangjans (specially-abled) in the district are vaccinated at the earliest. Several near-to-home CVCs (Covid Vaccination Centres) have been set up across the district for Divyangjans to ensure that they need not travel too far to get themselves vaccinated. In addition, for those Divyangjans who have mobility issues, Mobile Vaccination Vans have been pressed into services so that such persons could be vaccinated at their doorsteps.

On Thursday, seven Near-to-Home CVCs were set up for Divyangjans in the district and around 250 were vaccinated. The vaccination drive was carried out in coordination with Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs). “Our vaccination drive is continuing with full vigour and want all to get vaccinated soon in the district. However, we have to be also mindful of the needs of those categories of people, like Divyangjans, senior citizens, and seriously ill patients who have issues coming to regular CVCs and wait for their turns. All our special initiatives for such category of people are to show that we care about them and that they don’t feel they have been left out,” said Pranab Kumar Sarmah, deputy commissioner of Biswanath.

Kankana Saikia, assistant commissioner, who is personally monitoring special vaccination drives for Divyangjans, said, “Such drives have been continuing in Biswanath since June and more than 800 Divyangjans have already been vaccinated; out of which around 500 were vaccinated at their doorsteps by Mobile Vaccination Vans. Regular CVCs too are open for Divyangjans and if anyone wishes, he or she can also take the jab at those CVCs.” Saikia further added that they are in the final stage of mapping the total population of Divyangjans in the district and the focus from now onwards would be to get the rest vaccinated at the earliest. She said the administration was using the database of Anganwadi workers and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANMs) in mapping the population size; as well as locations; of Divyangjans in the district.

“Our objective is very clear. We want to make the vaccination process as smooth and painless as possible for Divyangjans. Only if we can do so, we can ensure to get them all vaccinated soon,” Saikia added.
