The Supreme Court took Suo moto cognizance of the death of Dhanbad Additional District and Sessions Judge Uttam Anand to ensure the safety of the courts and the safety and protection of the judges. Judge Anand was hit by an auto-rickshaw when he was out for a morning walk. A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justice Surya Kant directed Jharkhand Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to submit a status report on the investigation into the death of Justice Anand within a week.
In this case, it was initially believed that the death of Judge Anand was an accident but when the CCTV footage of the incident came to light, it was found that the driver had deliberately hit the judge as he was walking on the side of the road at that time. Judge Anand Jharia was hearing some high-profile cases including the murder of Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh's close aide Ranjay Singh. Apart from this, he had recently rejected the bail plea of two members of the gang of Aman Singh, a gangster from Uttar Pradesh.
The Jharkhand High Court took Suo moto cognizance of the incident on Thursday. The High Court is monitoring these cases. The Supreme Court, in its order, clarified that its order will not affect the case pending before the Jharkhand High Court and the High Court can continue with the proceedings in the Suo moto case initiated by it.
Auto hit the judge
It is noteworthy that on Thursday, during the morning walk in Dhanbad, Judge Uttam Anand was crushed by an auto, he was admitted to the hospital in critical condition, where he died. The manner in which the incident was carried out is being told as a conspiracy. It is clearly visible in the CCTV footage that Judge Uttam Anand is running slowly on the roadside and a speeding auto from behind is moving straight on the road and coming near the judge, he changes his direction and tramples the judge forward. Slip out.
High Court sought an answer from the state government
Taking Suo moto cognizance of the CCTV footage of the incident going viral, the High Court has sought a response from the state government. The DGP said in the court, SIT has been formed for the investigation. On this, the High Court said, if the investigation is not correct, then the case will be transferred to the CBI.
Police arrested two people
Two persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of Dhanbad Additional District and Sessions Judge Uttam Anand after the gangster was denied bail. The police have also seized the auto used in the murder.
