To address this, the UIDAI recently issued three updates on how to recover a lost Aadhaar Card both online and offline.

 

Ways to retrieve lost Aadhaar Card

In order to retrieve lost Aadhaar Card UIDAI has recently made an important update for Indian residents. According to UIDAI, Indian Aadhaar Cardholders can retrieve lost Aadhaar Card by calling toll-free number 1947 where the user will have to provide EID and PIN Code. Another offline mode is via Aadhaar Enrolment Centre where Aadhaar Card Holders who have lost their Aadhaar Card need to furnish demographic details and finish the biometrics authentication procedure to retrieve their lost Aadhaar Card at the Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

For techies who have lost their Aadhaar Card and want to retrieve their lost Aadhaar Card online can visit the official website of UIDAI and enter the required credentials such as Name, Registered Mobile Number, and Email Address to complete the procedure. Residents need to keep in mind that retrieving lost Aadhaar Card online and offline is completely free of charge and also no documents are required. But if you visit Aadhaar Seva Kendra, all that is required is your demographic details to retrieve your lost Aadhaar Card. Online retrieval of a lost Aadhaar card is also possible. According to UIDAI's most recent update, "If your latest mobile number or email ID is updated with Aadhaar, then you can RetrieveLostAadhaar online through a simple process. Logon to http://uidai.gov.in, select Retrieve Lost/forgotten EID/UID and authenticate with OTP." Follow the steps listed-below to retrieve lost your lost Aadhaar Card online:

  • Visit https://uidai.gov.in/ and go to the ‘My Aadhaar' tab.
  • Click "Retrieve Lost or Forgotten EID/UID" and select what you want to retrieve i.e. UID/EID.
  • Now enter your full name, registered mobile number or email address and the required CAPTCHA code.
  • Click on ‘Send OTP' and you will get a one-time password on your registered mobile number.
  • Authenticate the received OTP and you are done.

Steps to retrieve lost Aadhaar Card offline by visiting Aadhaar Enrolment Centre

Indian residents who are not tech-savvy can also retrieve their lost Aadhaar Card offline by visiting the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. Regarding the same, UIDAI has recently stated via its official Twitter that "You can get your Aadhaar at your nearest #AadhaarEnrolmentCentre by furnishing your demographic details and authenticating with biometrics. You'll need to pay specified charges to get a copy of your Aadhaar." To retrieve your lost Aadhaar Card offline, follow the steps listed below:

  • Visit your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre
  • Furnish your demographic details.
  • Authenticate your biometric details and then the representative will provide your Aadhaar Number.
  • Get your e-Aadhaar at the Enrolment Centre by paying specified charges.

Steps to retrieve lost Aadhaar Card via IVRS

Aadhaar Cardholders who want to retrieve their lost Aadhaar Card from the comfort of their home. Regarding the same, UIDAI has also informed us via its Twitter handle that "You can RetrieveLostAadhaar by calling 1947 and providing your demographic details, you'll get your EID, which you can use in combination with your PIN code to get Aadhaar." Follow the steps listed below which UIDAI has shared via its official Twitter handle:

  • Call 1947 from your registered mobile number and provide your demographic details.
  • Get your EID on the call and provide the combination of EID number and PIN Code.
  • Get your Aadhaar Number through IVRS at 1947.
  • To get a copy of Aadhaar you need to visit uidai.gov.in and enter your registered mobile number. Or else you can also visit your nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre with EID & Biometric Authentication to retrieve your lost Aadhaar Card.
