After being childless for eight years since marriage, a woman has given birth to quadruplets (four babies) via in-vitro fertilisation procedure at a private facility in Delhi, hospital authorities said on Saturday.

The Delhi government has directed private hospitals to discontinue their extended Covid facilities at hotels with immediate effect in view of the marked improvement in the coronavirus situation in the capital. (PTI)

The CBI has registered a case into the death of an undertrial prisoner at Tihar Jail in May 2002, officials said on Saturday. The action comes on the the directions of the Delhi High Court which had handed over the case, earlier probed by the Hari Nagar Police Station, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), they said.

A 45-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife to death following an argument on Saturday morning and later walked into Mangolpuri police station with a blood-stained knife to confess his crime, police said. His wife Sabana, 40, was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital by the neighbours where she was declared brought dead by doctors, they said. According to the police, Sameer and Sabana used to fight often over the accused's drinking habit.

A plea has been filed in the Delhi HC seeking to implead the Centre as a party to a petition for ensuring strict compliance of the 2013 law on manual scavengers to prevent loss of lives due to manual cleaning of sewers and septic tanks. The application referred to the recent statement of minister of state for social justice and empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, during the 254th session of Rajya Sabha that “no such deaths have been reported due to manual scavenging” in the last five years.

Gangster Chhota Rajan, who was admitted to AIIMS on Tuesday due to stomach ache, was discharged from the hospital and taken back to Tihar jail, officials said on Saturday. Rajan, 61, underwent treatment and was discharged from the hospital on Friday evening, they said.

A station has been proposed in Manesar on the Delhi-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor that the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) plans to build. Ghaziabad plans to administer around 60,000 doses — three times more than the current coverage. Gautam Budh Nagar, meanwhile, has fixed a target of vaccinating 30,000-40,000 people. According to the plan prepared in Noida, health officials will create around 150 session sites across the district. Every site will be given a target to vaccinate 200-250 people. Also, a higher number of online as well as walk-in slots will be available for all sessions.

A 38-year-old man was arrested three years after he along with his colleague allegedly misappropriated Rs 49 lakh from a company here and later his family lodged a false complaint of abduction against the employer to save him from legal action, police said on Saturday. Accused Lokesh Sharma, who joined the private company as a cashier in 2016, was apprehended from ISBT Kashmiri gate here, they said.

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairperson, Justice Arun Kumar Mishra on Friday made a surprise visit to a children's home in Delhi and took stock of the ground living conditions, overall infrastructure, and its general upkeep said an NHRC press release. According to the press release, instructions were given for improving the living conditions and welfare of the children with requisite Covid-19 appropriate protocol at the home for boys, Kasturba Niketan Complex, Lajpat Nagar-II.
