It's Necessary: Fix that damn bridge... and Senate

Will a break in the Senate's usual gridlock be enough to break the usual gridlock on I-75? Only time will tell.

Before President Joe Biden popped into the Queen City last week for a CNN town hall, the story was the outsized outrage that the pro-choice commander-in-chief would be speaking at Mount St. Joseph University. And while the town hall didn't break any new ground, Biden pitched his efforts to get a long-overdue infrastructure bill passed through the political logjam that is the Senate. To illustrate his point, Biden said, "We're gonna fix that damn bridge," aka our local logjam, the Brent Spence Bridge.

While we've long heard about fixing the Brent Spence – or replacing it, or supplementing it with an additional bridge – nothing has ever come to pass. But perhaps that will change. As unlikely as it would seem, a bipartisan effort, led by Sen. Rob Portman, has advanced the infrastructure bill to the floor of the Senate. Will a break in the Senate's usual gridlock be enough to break the usual gridlock on I-75? Only time will tell.
