GUWAHATI, July 29: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has succeeded in capturing a host of new streams of traffic. Recently, NFR carried black turmeric (Kali Haldi), raw turmeric, fresh lemon, etc., from Assam to various parts of the country. Railways have also re-captured traffic like betel nuts, black tea & vermin-compost, etc. A total of 605 Kg of black turmeric was transported on July 9 from Mariani station to New Jalpaiguri station. Apart from it, 1,890 Kg of raw turmeric has also been transported from New Tinsukia to New Delhi on July 14.
54 cartoons of lemon were booked for Guwahati from New Tinsukia station on June 1 and two more consignments were transported from New Tinsukia on July 15 and 26 respectively, for Guwahati and New Delhi. Subsequently, these lemons are also being exported to Dubai and the United Kingdom through air from there. Another consignment of 540 Kg of vermicompost was sent from Mariani to Lalgarh (Rajasthan) on July 17. These efforts of NFR are aimed to boost organic farming in the region.
