• Game 1: 14-10 - Sindhu continued to dominate and having realised that she has taken the lead, further upped the ante but a poor timing saw her concede a point. The two players were involved in long rallies that saw fantastic net-shots, lifts and defensive tactics with the Indian controlling the match with a four-point lead at 14-10.
• Game 1 Break 11-7: The attack came from Sindhu as she raced to a three-point lead at 10-7 and a quality net shot took her to a four-point advantage in the opening game.
• Game 1: Yamaguchi used her service to good effect and didn't allow Sindhu to take advantage of her height as Sindhu erred on an occasion while trying to attack. But Sindhu, indulging the Japanese in long rallies levelled at 6-6 and took the lead for the first time in the match at 7-6. Yamaguchi challenged but was unsuccessful. 
• Game 1: Yamaguchi to serve. Cautious start from both the players and it was Yamaguchi who took the first point but Sindhu was quick to draw level and then with a drop shot, Yamaguchi took a two-point lead at 5-3.
