LALC sets ultimatum to resolve land issues of Litan and Sikibung separately

Ukhrul, July 29 2021: Litan Area Land Committee (LALC) has set ultimatum to authorities concerned to resolve the land issues of Litan and Sikibung separately failing which the committee will resort to democratic agitation and further more will be compelled to oppose the land acquisition and related works along the stretch of road from Thoyee to Ramva Village, Ukhrul district until the aggrieved headmen's representations are disposed of judiciously.

A press statement issued by Litan Area Land Committee stated that the two aggrieved headmen of Litan and Sikibung village VS Deepak and Wungreikhan Kasar are the bonafide and undisputed headmen of villages respectively.

Both of them have been subjected to deliberate ignorance from the part of the competent authority for long though they have already filed their representations to the competent authority.

Both the issues are pending before the respected Deputy Commissioners and there is no attempt to resolve the issue from the part of the competent authority, added the statement.

VS Deepak, headman of Litan Village had already submitted a representation dated Jan 18, 2021 concerning the issues of exclusion of Litan Village from the land acquisition and the subsequent award of Compensation and he has been facing continued threats from the villagers and Chief of Mongkot Chepu after filing the representation but the authority has failed to take up concrete action to resolve the matter till date.

While Wungreikhan Kasar, headman of Sikibung Village also filed a representation to maintain the village boundary between Sikibung and Sareikhong villages and the matter is pending for more than 5 decades.

Stating that the actions of the competent authority as uncooperative and irresponsible Litan Area Land Committee laid down the following demands to be fulfilled within three weeks from the receipt of this ultimatum.

The Competent Authority should determine and dispose of the representations filed on Jan 18, 2021 by (i) Deepak, headman of Litan Village in the matter of land acquisition and compensation and (ii) Wungreikhan Kasar, Headman of Sikibung Village in the matter of maintenance of village boundary between Sikibung and Sareikhong village.

Litan Village should be inserted in the Gazette notification or any other pertinent notification for the acquisition of land in the rectified order and specify the amount of compensation.

Further any process and proceedings of compensation in relation to Litan, Sareikhong and Mongkot Chepu villages should be stopped immediately.

The committee shall object and oppose to any suppression of rights mounted from any stakeholders who try to manipulate and fabricate the boundaries of villages of Litan area to the great disadvantage of villagers concerned.

Lastly LALC urged the competent authorities to resolve issues within three weeks time failing which the competent authority will be held responsible for any untoward incident thereafter.
