Looking at the rise in the COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, newly appointed Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has ordered all the districts to closely observe the situation and impose supplementary containment measures if required.
CM Bommai-led Karnataka government made a decision regarding applying strict measures as the state, on Thursday, reported 2,052 cases of COVID-19 and 35 deaths, increasing the total number of infections to 29,01,247 and the death toll to 36,491.
CM Bommai also said that the state government is looking to closely monitor the situation also after there was a spurt in cases in Kerala. The CM also said that he has already had a word with district collectors of Dakshin Kannada, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, and Kodagu.
Speaking to ANI, Bommai, who arrived at the Delhi airport earlier today, said he has asked the officials to be on alert. "There has been a spurt of COVID cases in Kerala and we have three border districts. We have talked to Deputy Commissioners to be on alert and take stringent measures. They have been asked to prepare medical facilities," he said.
"I will have a detailed meeting on this matter once I go back," the Chief Minister said.

In other news, the Kerala government, on Thursday, announced a complete lockdown amid the spike of COVID-19 cases from July 31 to August 1. Amid the rising cases in Kerala, the Centre government sent a team of six members headed by Dr SK Singh, Director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
