New Delhi
South Korean
carmaker, Hyundai Motor Group signed an MoU with UL Commercial, a global safety
certification company, to strengthen the safety of the Second Life Battery
Energy Storage System (SLBESS) for electric vehicles (EVs).
The MoU is for
the certification and demonstration of SLBESS products. The two companies
intend to promote multi-faceted cooperation for SLBESS that reuses EV
batteries. The companies will introduce a differentiated 'UL signature
solution' to enhance reliability, jointly develop an exclusive UL evaluation
standard and conduct a North American demonstration project.
According to a
company statement, they will introduce the 'UL Signature Solution' to strictly
verify the safety of specific products from the early stage of SLBESS
development. The step will improve the fundamental safety of SLBESS and reduce
the time required for safety certification.
In addition, Hyundai plans to secure the highest level of
safety by jointly developing UL evaluation standards. The standards will
reflect the SLBESS technology of Hyundai and detailed structural
characteristics of EV batteries such as modules and pack units.
Young-jo Ji,
President, Hyundai Motor Group Innovation, said that Hyundai would maximise the
safety of SLBESS through such collaborations.
Sajib Jesudas,
President, UL Commercial, said that the partnership would contribute to the
development of competitive SLBESS and safety certification in the global
market.
