A Jalandhar-based couple travel agents duped two residents of Rs 15 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad on study visa.
The accused have been identified as Soma Sundaram and his wife Sonia Sudaram, owners of Gradico Consultants, Baradari, Jalandhar.
Complainant Gurtinder Singh of the Samrala road, Khanna, said the couple promised to send his two kin on study visa to Argentina and as per the deal, Rs 15 lakh was deposited in the account of a university in 2018.
“The couple had promised that visa will come by August 2018, but it didn’t come. They kept on making hollow promises for several months. Later, they gave in writing that the money would be refunded in April 2020, but nothing happened,” alleged the complaint.
The complainant said in April 2021, a complaint was lodged at the SSP, Khanna, office, where after conducting probe for over three months, the Khanna police registered a case against the couple.
Investigation officer ASI Kuldeep Singh said a case of fraud has been registered against the couple under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC and under Section 24 of the Immigration Act.
653 intoxicating tablets seized from jail inmate
Surprise checking at Central Jail, Ludhiana, led to the recovery of 653 intoxicating tablets from jail inmate Sandeep Singh. Assistant Jail Superintendent Karnail Singh said the tablets were recovered from the belongings of the inmate.
